The International Music Academy Ferdinand Rebay
Since its founding at Heiligenkreuz Abbey, the music of Ferdinand Rebay (1880–1953) has been at the heart of this academy.
We offer musicians the opportunity to study selected solo and chamber music works by Rebay – already published by Bergmann Edition (Denmark) – as well as works by other composers, and to present them to an audience as part of the final concert.
Since 2014, we have continuously brought Rebay's compositions to life, promoted his musical legacy, and helped make his works more widely known to the public.

Guitar
The guitar course of the Ferdinand Rebay Music Academy, led by Thomas Müller-Pering, offers guitarists the opportunity to further develop their technical and artistic skills in a focused manner.
The main emphasis is placed on working with the diverse guitar repertoire of Ferdinand Rebay. Participants are encouraged to contact the academy or the instructor in advance for repertoire suggestions and access to sheet music.
The course is designed for guitarists who wish to deepen their playing technique, musical interpretation, and stylistic versatility—through intensive engagement with both solo and chamber music repertoire.

Prof. Thomas Müller-Pering
Born in Cologne, he studied with Prof. Tadashi Sasaki at the Aachen University of Music from 1976 to 1980. During this time, he also attended numerous masterclasses, including with Siegfried Behrend, José Tomás, Oscar Ghiglia, Manuel Barrueco, and John Williams.
He went on to receive numerous prizes and awards, such as at the ARD Competition in Munich in 1982, first prize at the Concurso Internacional de Música in Viña del Mar, Chile in 1983, and the Advancement Award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
As a soloist, his concert tours regularly took him across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. In Japan, he released his first two solo CDs, and in 1988, as one of the first guitarists, he produced a 60-minute video recital.
In addition to his solo performances and recordings, he is a dedicated chamber musician, performing with flutist Wally Hase and violinist Friedemann Eichhorn. In 1991, he collaborated with Manuel Barrueco as duo partner on the EMI recording of Danzas Españolas by Enrique Granados. From 2003 to 2005, he was a member of the international project World Guitar Ensemble.
At the Aachen University of Music, he led his own guitar class from 1980 to 1998. He has also taught masterclasses both in Germany and abroad. Since 1994, he has held a professorship at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar, and from 2007 to 2021, he simultaneously held a visiting professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).
